What is Seed Mail?

Seed Mail Seed Co. is an heirloom and open pollenated seed company that carries all sorts of seed varieties, from garden staples, to uncommon and rare edibles. Each package is packaged with care and sometimes extra goodies, that are delivered right to your doorstep. On occasion we offer specialty boxes, such as garlic, and potatoes, which will be available for pre-sale, during their scheduled times.

How much does Seed Mail cost?

Our seeds cost $1.99 each! Our specialty items, during their allotted pre-order time, E.g. potato, garlic, etc., range in cost, and depends on market prices, plus shipping, and you will be billed at the time of pre-purchase.

Merch prices vary depending on the item.

ALL PRICES AND SHIPPING COSTS ARE IN US DOLLARS.

Where do your seeds come from? Are they organic? Non GMO?

Our seeds come from a variety of trusted US based sources. Where our seeds come from highly depends on which companies carry the seeds that were selected for the site. However, they are always from companies that offer trusted Non GMO seeds. Although, it is important to keep in mind that our seeds may not always be organic, as some rarer varieties may not be offered as organic, or are more expensive. I try my hardest to keep cost down for you in order to offer seeds at low costs, which means that they can't always be organic. Our seeds will always be Non GMO and from a trusted seed source, or from my own garden (these will be specially marked on the website). I understand the importance of non-gmo food, and companies that you can trust to supply you with uncontaminated seeds. I use these seeds in my own garden to grow the food that I eat, and will never use a source that I, myself, do not trust.

What happens when your specialty items are sold out?

Seed Mail’s specialty items are on a first come first serve basis. Orders are filled in the order in which they were placed, and once the pre-order period is over they will no longer be available for purchase, and will be considered sold out.

Are your seeds edible?

Although many seeds, like pumpkin and sunflower seeds, are edible, our seeds are not meant for human consumption. Please refrain from eating our seeds. We are not liable for any injury that occurs due to the consumption of our seeds, which are meant for growing purposes only.

Do you have a seed catalog?

We do not currently have a seed catalog. I offer my seeds for the affordable price of $1.99, and in order to do so, I have to cut costs that would force me to price my seeds higher, like a printed catalog. However, my website serves as a digital catalog, and you can view all of my seeds by clicking on the "seeds" tab.

Do you restock?

I do restock my items, and update inventory! However, it may take me time to do this, since I test germinate all of my seeds frequently, and I print and hand fill all of my seed packets.

I tend to restock items based on demand, and season (normally based on my Florida grow season). Some seeds I have a very limited amount of, and may not come back in stock, until they're in inventory again.

Restocks will be announced via email, through our newsletter, and in Seed Mail's Instagram stories and feed, @SeedMailSeedCo, when they're officially available. If you sign up for our newsletter, you will be alerted to all of our restocks, new arrivals, sales, and happenings.

Items like garlic and potatoes are only offered seasonally. Once they are sold out for the season, they will not be available again until the next season.

However, please keep in mind that I am a one woman show, so please be patient with me while I update inventory and gear up for another restock.

Are you Black owned?

I am indeed a woman of color, and identify as such. Although my signature bright blue fro, which is prominent on/in all of my packaging, designs, and photos, probably already gave you a hunch.

Can I add items to my order?

Yes! Please send an email to contact@seedmailseed.co, or message me on Instagram (the fastest way for me to see your message) @Mint2Grow or @SeedMailSeedCo with your order number, and issue, as soon as possible, and I will make the alterations for you, and send you your new invoice. However, I can not guarantee that I will see your email before I fill and seal your order, since I fill orders, and seal them pretty quickly, nor can I guarantee that the item you wish to add will be in stock for me to do so. Once your order has been filled, or ships, it can not be altered, and you will have to place another order.

Something was missing from my order what should I do?

If something is missing from your order, I do sincerely apologize. I am a one woman show, and still human, so a mistake may happen. Please reach out to me, via email contact@seedmailseed.co, and I will remedy the issue ASAP.

What is your email response time?

While I strive to respond to your emails, I am a one woman show, and response times will vary. Alternatively, I encourage you to check the FAQ section frequently, as it gets updated regularly with popular questions.

Why can't I add an item to my cart?

If you can not add an item to your cart, it means the item is sold out.

Where are your seeds grown?

They are all grown or sourced from my garden, US based companies, home gardeners, and farms.

Do you have a newsletter?

Yes we do! Subscribe to our newsletter below to be alerted to all of our restocks, new arrivals, sales, blog updates, and happenings.

Can you place my order on hold until you restock more items?

I can not hold your order, until other items are restocked. I offer things on a first come first serve basis, and it would not be fair to my other customers to do so.

Can you pick my seeds for me?

I do not hand pick seeds for you. I can recommend seeds for your garden and space, but I will not make the final selections, or place an order for you.

Is there a waiting list?

We do not have a waiting list.  However, you can sign up for our newsletter to be informed when items will come back in stock.

* indicates required

Can I swap items in my order?

Only if an item you wish to swap for is in stock, and your order hasn't already been filled. Once your order has been filled and and sealed, I can not alter it. Please send an email to contact@seedmailseed.co, or message me on Instagram (the fastest way for me to see your message) @Mint2Grow or @SeedMailSeedCo with your order number, and issue, as soon as possible, and if possible, I will make the alterations for you.

You had a seed variety available last year, but it's no longer available to purchase this year.  Will it be back?

It may be because I was not able to find a source for that specific seed variety, or that the variety didn't sell well so I decided not to carry it anymore. Also, seeds that I grow myself will be limited.

It is important to remember that my inventory rotates, so I may not always carry all of the items in my inventory. However, the listings are left up for their grow guides, and descriptions for those who did purchase them when they were available. I will try to mark the varieties that are out for the season, but sometimes I'm a bit too busy filling seed packets to do so in a timely manner.

Why didn't you respond to my FB message?

Because I am one person, and it is hard enough to keep up with two Instagram accounts, and Emails. Please try to reach me through email or Instagram instead.

Growing

What should I grow in my area?

I suggest that you speak with your local master gardener's club to find out that information, or google your hardiness zone, to see what may work best for you. I specialize in South Florida gardening, which is a zone 10, so I do not know the specifics of other hardiness zones, especially the colder ones.

How do I find my hardiness zone?

You can speak to your local master gardener's club or just google your zip code+ hardiness zone, and google should tell you.

For example you could type in "what is 77084 hardiness zone"

Will I be able to save seeds from the seeds that I buy from you?

Yes you can! All of my seeds, unless specifically stated that they are not, are heirloom, or open pollinated seeds. As long as you prevent cross pollination, they will grow true to type. Under most of my seed varieties, I provide grow guides, where you can also learn how to save seeds for that specific seed variety.

Could you help me with growing instructions?

Under each of my seed varieties, I offer grow guides. If you see one missing, it'll be on its way soon :)

How long will your seeds last?

Depending on the type of seed, and the environment it was kept in, they can last anywhere between 1-10 years. Some things like parsnips and lettuce will start to decline in germination after 1 year, while other things, like tomatoes and squash, can last up to 10 years! Just make sure you store your seeds in airtight containers, away from the sun to ensure their viability. A cool, dry, dark spot is preferred. You can also freeze your seeds, however, do make sure that you let them reach room temperature before you open your packets to avoid condensation on the inside of your packets.

How do I save my own seeds?

How to save your seeds, often depends on the type of seed. Please refer to my grow guides for seed saving tips, most of them will offer this information.

What seeds grow best in the South?

I can not speak for all of the South, but the seeds that I find that do well for me in my zone 10b garden, can be found here.

Can your seeds be grown in containers?

Yes they can be! Pretty much all seeds, garlic, and potatoes can be grown in containers. 97% of my garden is actually grown in fabric bags. Just make sure you have the right container size for the variety you are trying to grow. Often times, container plants fail due to being placed in a pot that is too small for their growth habit. Things like indeterminate tomatoes really shouldn't be grown in anything smaller than 10 gallons, although, I've gotten away with growing cherry tomatoes in 7 gallon fabric pots, once fed and watered accurately. Also, it is important to keep in mind that container grown plants may need more nutrients and water than if you were to grow them in the ground or in a raised bed.

Can you help me plan my garden?

I do not do garden consultations/planning at this time.

How should I store my seeds?

You should store your seeds in air tight containers, away from the sun to ensure their viability. A cool, dry, dark place is preferred. You can also freeze your seeds, however, do make sure that you let them reach room temperature before you open your packets to avoid condensation on the inside of your packets.

What countries do you ship to?

When will my Seed Mail be shipped to me?

Orders take 7-14 days to fulfill, package, and ship, once the order has been placed. If I just launched/ restocked new items, shipping may take up to 22 days depending on the volume of orders received, because I package all of the orders by myself.

Pre-ordered items will ship during their predetermined time period.  Garlic ships early-mid October, and potatoes ship early-mid March.

Once your Seed Mail ships, you will receive an email with your tracking information. I do thank you for your patience.

Help! I shipped my order to the wrong address what should I do?

However, once your order ships, it can not be altered, and Seed Mail can not be held liable for orders that are sent to addresses that were incorrectly entered by the customer, nor are we liable to refund/replace this order.

When will I get my Seed Mail?

Once your order ships, via USPS, it will generally take 2-5 business days to reach you, shipping times may be longer during the holiday season.

If I place more than 1 order, can I combine my order and get some of my shipping refunded?

No, I am not able to combine orders placed, and they will be shipped out separately. By placing multiple orders, you are agreeing to the price indicated at checkout.

I didn't receive my package, what now?

The mail carrier is responsible for all mail that gets delivered to you, and we advise that you put in a claim with your post office about the missing package. Seed Mail is not liable for unfortunate events such as misplaced, lost, stolen, or undelivered packages, during the time of transit or delivery, and a refund will not be issued to you.  However, if a package is not delivered, and sent back to Seed Mail, in good condition, then you will be offered a refund (shipping fees are not refundable), or an option to reship your package, once additional shipping is paid for.

Why was my shipping fee not refunded?

Shipping fees are nonrefundable, once your package has been shipped.

Can I pick up my seeds in person?

No, I do not offer in person pickups. All orders are shipped.
