Description: Luffa Gourds are some of the most practical gourds that you can grow in your garden, since these gourds are often used to make natural sponges. The plants are beautiful and ornamental, with silvery green foliage that's adorned with abundant, cute, yellow flowers. Luffa can be quite the productive plant, and in no time you'll have all the natural sponges you can use. This variety produces a chubbier version of the classic long luffa gourds, and when picked young (about 2-4 inches), they can be cooked like okra. Gourds do great in Southern regions, with long hot growing seasons, but you can grow them in cooler zones, as well, as long as you start them indoors first. Keep in mind that these babies need space, since they're vigorous vines, and look absolutely adorable on trellises and arches.
